8 Tips to Help You Stay Slim This Christmas

By Rick Dudziak

Many people associate Christmas time with weight gain. We tend to use this time to relax and enjoy the good things in life. But you don't have to let your Christmas indulgence ruin your figure. You too can enjoy the festive season and also maintain a great figure into the New Year.

Research suggests that, on average, we gain 1-2lbs over the Christmas period and when you have been working hard all year to keep the weight off, you may be worried that all of your hard work has been pointless.
Below are some tips that will help you maintain your weight over Christmas and help you keep to your weight loss target into the New Year.

1. Enjoy an active Christmas - Instead of lazing around over Christmas, get some exercise. I'm not suggesting trying to find a gym open on Christmas day, but try going for a walk with the family to keep you active. This will keep you fit and healthy and you also get to spend quality time with your loved ones.

2. Choose Turkey - Turkey is a great choice when compared to other red meats. It is low in fat and high in protein and will keep your calorie intake considerably lower.

3. Roast your vegetables - This little tip will help you cut down on calories without cutting out the taste. Don't saturate your roast potatoes and roast vegetables in fat. Try boiling them for roughly 10 minutes, which softens them slightly, and then drizzle them in low fat vegetable oil before putting them in the oven.

4. Beware of the treats - You may be surprised to hear that one 2kg tin of Roses contains approximately 10,000 calories. Keep this figure in mind when you reach for the sweets. Try to keep the treats to a minimum but don't let dieting get in the way of your festive fun.

5. Go easy on the booze - Everyone knows that alcoholic drinks are very calorific. Try to watch how much your are drinking to avoid going over your daily calorie intake.

6. Pick unsalted - Salted peanuts are high in saturated fats which is bad for your weight and also your heart. By swapping to unsalted, you are cutting down on calories and choosing the healthier alternative. Look at what other foods you could substitute for healthier options. You will be surprised how many things can be swapped for a lower calorie alternative without losing taste.

7. Enjoy yourself - Do not let your weight loss goals get in the way of your fun. Christmas is a time to relax and do the things you want to. If you have been dieting all year, maybe you need to indulge yourself a little in order to maintain your focus. As long as you are sensible in the choices you make, you will be able to continue with your weight loss regime after the Christmas period with no lasting damage.

8. Get Some Help - Using a dietary aid such as Proactol will help you to keep maintain your figure over the festive season. Proactol will bind to the fat you eat and pass through your system with 28% less fat being absorbed.

Maintaining a great figure over Christmas isn't something you need to fear. By following these simple steps you will find that staying slim over Christmas will be a piece of cake!

Merry Christmas
